A busy week!

This week in Reception, we have been very busy in our Literacy lessons learning about endangered and extinct animals. Our recent story we have looked at (The Journey Home) showed animals and their homes in danger. The children were fascinated to look deeper into other endangered animals and why they are in danger. We looked at what an endangered and extinct animal is. We learned about pangolins and why they are endangered, tigers and deforestation and how to keep the ocean clean for the animals. The children also sorted animals into extinct animals, endangered animals and safe animals and got to join split pins to combine the legs to their animals and make an endangered animal.

Last week, the children got the chance to plant their own plants as we approach spring! This week, they have thoroughly enjoyed observing how their plants have grown and describing what they can see. It was interesting to see the children compare their plant to their friend’s to see whose had grown more. As we venture further into spring, we will look at how the plants grow and how the children can look after them.

Nursery have been looking after some ducklings over the last 2 weeks and we brought them into Reception for the children to say hello! They each had a chance to touch the duck and they loved watching them try to escape out of the pen we had made!

How you can help at home:

  • Your child will be getting a handwriting rhyme sheet which you can use to help support children with their letter formation. Please use this sheet at home to ensure all letters are formed accurately.
  • We have been looking at parts of 7 in maths, ask your child to show you the different parts of 7 that they know. If you give them 4 spoons, how many more to make 7?
  • Please also remember to put your child’s reading record and reading books in their book bag everyday so we can read with your child.
