This week the children received a huge surprise! After the terrible weather we had, we found a baby dragon in our garden who got separated from his mother. The children were in awe of the little moving dragon who needs looking after.

Luckily we have been reading our new class book, Dragon Post! The children have been able to use the information they have gathered from the book to look after the dragon, making sure he is kept cool and he is fed lots of meat! Unfortunately we have received a letter from the neighbours complaining about the noise coming from the school in the eveningsā¦ now the children need to find a way to keep the dragon quiet at night! Ā This has led to fabulous writing opportunities and the children have worked very hard to use the phonic sounds they have learned so far.
As per our Talk for Writing format, the children are learning to recite the story, using actions and drama. Ā As a class we have made our story map and will start to change our story next week.
As the Lunar New Year also fell in this week, we have looked at how Chinese New Year is celebrated and we made a range of decorations and props to help us celebrate. To start the week, the children helped to clean the home corner to sweep all the bad luck away before they put their dragon decorations up. Today the children used pipettes to squirt red, black and yellow paint on a large sheet of paper to create a HUGE paper dragon. The children were excited to realise that their dragon was symmetrical as they rubbed the paint onto both sides of the paper.
How you can help at home:
This week the children learned even more phonic sounds.

Please encourage your child to find these digraphs and trigraphs in their library books. Ā Can they sound out words with the sounds in them or could you really challenge them and see if they can write words using the sounds?
As always, we hope you have a lovely weekend.
