This year, Pancake Day is on Tuesday 16th February.
Pancake Day, or Shrove Tuesday, is the day before the start of the Christian festival of Lent. Traditionally, people would use up the nice ingredients in their cupboard and make pancakes before getting ready for 40 days of fasting before Easter. During Lent, they were not allowed to eat rich foods – one of these was eggs, which are the main ingredients for pancakes.
I hope you get a chance to make some pancakes next Tuesday – I wonder what your favourite topping is?
I have found a story called ‘Mr. Wolf’s Pancakes’ by Jan Fearnley, which I hope you enjoy. I think you might recognise some of the characters!
