The children have been making paper chains in festive colours. This is, of course, a lovely activity which the children enjoy and there are also many skills involved in making them.
The fine motor skill of making the circle and sticking it at the end (not all over) then threading through the next strip and sticking that in a circle to make the chain.
We have reinforced a lot of our recent Maths work during this – shape, making repeating colour patterns, counting how many links are in our chains and adding 1 more to our chain.
“I had 3 and I added on 1 more so then I had 4.”
“I’ve got more than 10….I’ve got 13 in my chain.”
On their second go during Fiddly Fingers the children were noticeably more skilled and were starting to add groups of chains together to make total amounts.
