As we come to the end of another wonderful school year, we would like to say a huge thank you to all of the children in Swans and Herons, and to all of our amazing parents and carers, for making this such a memorable year.

We have shared so many exciting experiences together and have loved watching the children grow in confidence, curiosity and independence. From our fascinating visit to the Roald Dahl Museum, where we explored the wonderful world of storytelling, to celebrating World Book Day dressed as our favourite book characters, it has been a year full of fun and learning.

We proudly created beautiful Remembrance Day poppy artwork, learnt valuable cooking skills by safely chopping vegetables and making delicious dips, and became historians and designers as we built our own Tudor houses.

Our adventures continued as we explored the forest, discovering nature all around us, and practised our writing skills by sending heartfelt letters home to our parents and carers. We also enjoyed an inspiring trip to the RAF Museum, where we learnt about aviation and history through fascinating exhibits.

Every day has been filled with smiles, laughter, hard work and kindness. We are so proud of everything the children have achieved this year and are grateful for the wonderful support from our families throughout.

As our Year 2 children prepare for their exciting move to Year 3, we wish each and every one of them the very best of luck. We know they will continue to shine, work hard and achieve great things.

Helping Your Child Transition to Year 3

Here are three simple ways you can help your child feel confident and excited about starting Year 3:

Keep reading together – Sharing books over the summer helps children maintain their reading skills and builds confidence for the new school year.
Encourage independence – Practise simple routines such as getting dressed, organising their belongings, packing their school bag and taking responsibility for their own equipment.
Talk positively about the change – Encourage your child to share any worries or questions they may have and remind them of all the exciting opportunities and new friendships that Year 3 will bring.
