This week during maths the children have continued to engage with activities that underline the purpose of counting – to find out ‘how many’ objects there are altogether. Our key focus this week has been deepening the children’s understanding of 5 as a quantity by linking the number itself to the 5 fingers on one hand.
How you can help at home:
- When praising your child, ask for a ‘High 5.’
- When tidying up, set counting challenges, eg. Who can pick up 5 pieces of Lego and put them away? Use your fingers to show the quantity required.
- Ask questions that call for counting eg. How many cups are on the table? Can you pick up 5 sticks from the garden?
Enjoy your week
