Maths

This week in Reception the children have been building on their subitising skills.  They have continued to use perceptual subitising and instant recognition by saying the number of sounds that they can hear,  such as claps or beats of the drum without needing to count.  We have also encouraged the children to represent quantities in different ways by using a number of fingers, counting cubes or natural objects and matching them to numbers.

How you can help at home:

Play a pairs game at home where you match the number on a dice to a group of objects then verbally encourage the children to tell you how many they would have if they had one more or one less.
