The Magic Porridge Pot

This week we introduced the children to the story of the magic porridge pot. They enjoyed listening to the story and learning different actions to help them remember the story.  They have learnt the key vocabulary of the story and loved shouting the magic words “cook little pot cook” and “stop little pot stop”. In the outdoor learning area, they were lucky enough to have a chance at exploring porridge whilst being imaginative and creating their own filling for the magic porridge pot.

We have also been very busy developing our maths skills and knowledge! Throughout the last week we have been practising subitising numbers 1, 2 and 3 and using our fingers to help us. This week we introduced number 4! The children learnt that number block 4 can be shown in lots of different ways and shapes. They had the chance to get their own blocks of 4 cubes where they could explore how to make 4 in different ways.

Each week, the children learn more phonics sounds and this week we have introduced the sounds g, o, c, and k. The children always enjoy the games we play at the end of our phonic lessons, which include finding the new sound hidden amongst already learned sounds.

How you can help at home:

– Ensure your child is reading their phonics and colour books at least once a day.
– Play our number game – say a number from 1-4 and the children have to show you on their fingers.
