This half term, our little explorers have been diving into the fascinating world of the British Isles! We have been learning all about the four countries that make up the UK—England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Each week, we focused on discovering the highest mountains, longest rivers and capital cities of each country. It has been such a fun journey! Our young geographers have been using atlases, Google Earth and maps to help them learn about the human and physical features of each country.
We are so proud of the progress our children have made this half term and cannot wait to continue exploring new topics in the weeks ahead. Keep up the great work, Year 1!
How to help at home
- Spend some time looking at maps and atlases – can your child(ren) find some of the places they have visited on them?
- Use Google Earth – can you find your house? Merry Hill School? Other significant places?
- As you walk/ drive places look out for human (built by humans) and physical (naturally occuring) features.
