What a gorgeous, sunny week this has been! Nursery have been making the most of the sun and we have been out and about in our Nursery playground, in our lovely forest and on our field, under our beautiful willow tree.
This week we have started our new story, ‘The Enormous Turnip’. We began by sitting in a circle and passing around some turnips to look at, touch and smell. We had some great discussions around what we thought they were and how they grow. We collected our ideas on our flip chart and will add more to it as our knowledge and understanding of vegetables develops over the next two weeks.
We have continued to work hard on our phonics and we are getting so good at recognising the sounds and spotting them in words around us. We have also been practicing how to write the different sounds and we all now have our own whiteboard to use during our phonics lessons – we are so grown up!
How you can help at home
- This week’s sound is ‘u’, like at the start of ‘umbrella’. Encourage your child to think of other words that start with the ‘u’ sound. You could even make up some silly words!
- Can your child spot the sound ‘u’ in words around them at home?
- Encourage your child to explore vegetables at home – what do they look like, how do they smell, feel? Can you find out how the vegetable is grown?
