This week in Nursery

The Big Bad Wolf has been to Nursery this week! He has been blowing down our constructions and we  had to work hard to build stronger houses for the pigs! We enjoyed retelling the story of The Three Little Pigs using masks and our acting skills. We listened to a few versions of ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and have found that not all the endings of the story are the same. Next week in Literacy, we will be creating our own endings to the story – who knows what might happen to the wolf?!

We have also been enjoying the forest this week and have been busy hunting for minibeasts. We started by learning the names of different minibeasts and then finding out some facts about them. When we were in the forest, we used a range of natural resources to create some minibeast pictures.

How you can help at home:

  • When you are going for a walk, encourage your child to look for minibeasts. Talk to them about what the minibeast looks like: What colour is it? Can you see any legs? Does it have wings?
  • Draw a picture of a minibeast they have seen – encourage your child to use the right colours to colour it in. We would love to see any minibeast pictures – so please either upload a photo to Tapestry or bring the picture into Nursery.
  • This week’s sound is ‘h’. We learned that ‘h’ is a quiet sound, and to help us make it, we can breathe out onto our hand. Encourage your child to look for the sound ‘h’ in writing around them – in the shops, in a book or magazine, on the television.
