This week in Reception

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Reception! Our week started by creating paper chains and making snowflake patterns, using paper and scissors- our celebration tree looks very festive as a result.

In Maths we continue to subitise small groups of objects and count larger groups. The children have enjoyed counting Christmas decorations and matching them to the correct numeral.

We are also enjoying Christmas themed activities during our Child Initiated Learning time; racing reindeer using magnets, making and writing Christmas cards. taking turns to play a matching Christmas pairs game, small world stable and nativity puppets inside and outside, digging for stars in the sand…the list goes on!

Our production ‘The Travelling Stars’ is taking shape and we are so looking forward to you coming to watch us sing, act and dance!

As well as practising our Christmas songs for the show we have been singing our weekly nursery rhyme. This week we enjoyed singing Polly put the Kettle on:https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/school-radio/nursery-rhymes-polly-put-the-kettle-on/zf8vhbk

Elephants were delighted to visit Bushey library this week and walked there very sensibly. They were excited to find out how to borrow books and to be able to choose their own. They also listened very well to the staff as they read stories to them. We hope this experience will encourage a love of books and reading.

Wishing you all a very happy weekend,

The Reception Team
