Another busy week in Reception

We have been busy elephants this week! Reception has been enjoying their weekly PE sessions practicing different ways of moving around objects. Before we started our lesson we talked about the importance of exercise and how it keeps us fit and healthy. We started off by playing the red, amber and green light game to warm up. We then played ‘Up and Down’ where the children were in teams and one team turned the cones up whilst the other team turn the cones down. Lastly, we played the magic porridge pot game where  the teacher shouted “Cook little pot cook” and the children ran and when “Stop little pot stop” was shouted the children ran to a spot and froze. We had lots of fun.

We have also been working really hard on our letter formation when writing words. In phonics, we have been reviewing all the learnt sounds and had a go at writing some words on whiteboards to practice. The reception team were amazed at how fantastic the children’s writing was.
Last week, it was the Jewish festival Rosh Hashanah. Miss Reuben celebrated this festival with her family and took pictures to teach the children about the festival. They learnt that Jewish people dip apple in honey to symbolize a sweet new year. To celebrate, the children decorated their own apples with tissue paper and also did apple printing with paint.

How you can help at home:

– Start practicing letter formation and writing CVC words e.g cat, hat, sit, pot.
– Keep your child moving at home by playing one of our PE games or any exercise game, this not only keeps them fit and healthy but also develops fine and gross motor skills.
– Please send in a family photo for our Understanding the World display. They can either be printed and brought in, or emailed to admin@merryhill.herts.sch.uk
Have a great weekend 🙂
