Celebrating Yayoi Kusama

This week in Nursery we have learned a little bit about the famous Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama.  We were inspired by her story and how and why she became a painter.  Her determination to dig deeper and persevere when things were difficult, definitely pushed us to try our best when attempting something new. Here is a link to her story read out loud:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbthcaz0oUk

This week we made use of a variety of media to create our dot art.  Not only did we practice our fine motor skills by using sticky dots to create more circle art, but we also recycled our snacks by using the left over carrots to stamp polka dots, making dotty art in our sand tray and finally we used cotton buds to decorate Yayoi’s favourite vegetables- pumpkins and mushrooms!

Apart from honing our artistic skills, we have also been hard at work in our Maths lessons.  Practicing to write our numbers as well as making sure we know what number of objects each numeral represents.  We had great fun trying to find the correct number of objects in class while a countdown timer added extra challenge to our task.

How you can help at home
We watched a video to help us remember how to form our numbers, why don’t you try listening to the video at home to refresh your memory and then practice your number formation. https://youtube.com/watch?v=pzmB0GoEKkA&feature=shares
We hope you get to do something magnificent this weekend!
