This term in Year 2 we are looking at ‘Living Things and their Habitats’.

We began exploring the differences between things that are living, dead and have never been alive. After learning all the things a living thing needs to live and survive, we then compared and sorted them . Next, we went outside and collected some things to sort into the three groups. Finally, using the things we collected and some pictures, we used the MRS GREN acronym to help us sort them into categories on our Seesaw activity:

This week we focused on different habitats. We kept it within our known local environment by thinking about the habitats we have here at Merry Hill and went on a habitat hunt in our extensive grounds! We took our worksheets with us and had to map out where the habitats were and what living things we found residing  there.

How to help at home:

  • Go to the park or woods – what habitats can you find?
  • Sort different things around your home – are they living, dead or never been alive?
  • Investigate your animal of choice – what is its habitat? Why is it suitable for that environment?
