This week in Nursery

This week we decided to make the most of the incredible weather we had recently and spent every minute outside, in the shade!  It was lovely to enjoy the fresh air in the forest and to also make the most of learning outside.  When it became unbearably hot outside, we sheltered in the classroom, focusing on our art activities.

This week we continued to develop our number skills by playing games where we had to find what number is 1 more or 1 less than the number on the dice.  We had to work in pairs to find the answer and our added challenge was to find different ways to represent our answer! The children showed fantastic teamwork and they have become quite proficient at using number fans.  Later, the children were asked to find different ways to represent numbers 1-6

For our English lessons we enjoyed completing our phonics games under the willow tree up in the field.  The children also enjoyed listening to more stories, linked to our topic ‘Summer Fun’. Don’t be surprised if your children suddenly start speaking like pirates.

I would not like to spoil the surprise for all the superheroes out there, so I will only say we hope you are spoiled rotten and  enjoy opening your presents on Sunday! The children had a great time creating their special presents and we would like to say a huge thank you to the Friends of Merry Hill who worked tirelessly to ensure everyone had a special gift to take home.

How you can help at home:

While we are focusing on numbers, why not play this game where children need to recognise what number is 1 more or 1 less than the given number.  https://numboodles.com/play/one-more-than-one-less-than-fish-game/
