This week in Nursery

This week in Nursery we have been reading a new book in Literacy – Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? We have been trying hard to join in with repetitive refrains in the book, as well as linking colours to the various animals. We have used our Mini Explorers sessions in the forest to find things to match each colour in the environment.

Mondrian

We have started learning about Piet Mondrian this week. We discussed the colours and shapes we could see in some examples of his work. We then had a go at recreating our own masterpieces – let us know what you think!

We also started our week with some autumn themed activities where we practised our fine motor skills.

We have been thinking about another one of the Golden Rules this week – Do work hard. We have all been trying our best to really have a good go at things ourselves, even though we may find these tricky! We have worked on self help skills such as practising putting our coats on independently, changing our shoes and putting on puddle suits for Mini Explorers. We have even tried to peel our own oranges for snack time! We managed to do all of these things with perseverance, practise and just a little help from the grown ups!

Phonics

This week in phonics, we have been practising our nursery rhymes. These are important since they help us to hear patterns in language, as well as hearing rhyming words. We have been listening to sounds we can hear in the classroom and have also enjoyed playing some sound bingo games too! You might like to play one at home.

How you can help at home:

  • Share stories, rhymes and poems together – can you use any signs or actions to reinforce the meaning?
  • Go on a nature walk and talk about what you can see, hear, smell and feel
  • Discuss colours around the environment – can your child remember the animals and their colour from our book?
