This half term we are learning about growing. We will be looking at how animals change as they grow and finding out about plant growth. Please continue to send in any plant cuttings you have so that we can add them to our garden.
This week in Literacy we have started to learn the story Owl Babies. We are learning to, “Retell the story, once they have developed a deep familiarity with the text, some as exact repetition and some in their own words,” (Development Matters 2021). The children have been busy imitating the text and pretending to be Sarah, Percy and Bill (the Owl Babies) wearing masks they have made and rehearsing the speech the characters use. Ask your child to tell you the story at home.
In Maths we are learning to compare and classify objects using given criteria and own ideas and compare the amount within groups after classification.
We started by sorting blocks into 2 groups. We discussed sorting according to colour but quickly realised there were more than 2 colours.
Here we are sorting them into ‘red’ and ‘not red’.
In Phonics we are learning to read and write the sound ‘oo’ as in ‘book’. We are continuing to sort ‘real’ and ‘pseudo’ words.
How you can help at home:
Write the following words onto post it notes/ cards. Encourage your child to use robot arms and blending hands to sound-talk the word, then sort them into ‘real’ and ‘pseudo’ word groups.
