This Week in Reception

This week we have started to weed the planting beds in Reception. We were very excited to notice the new growth creeping through, showing the first signs of Spring.

We also discovered a few worms in the ground which was very exciting as we are making snacks for the Owl Babies in our mud kitchen using pretend worms made from wool. We left the real worms where they were instead.

We also enjoyed smelling the leeks during our snack time. We are using snack time to practise our cutting skills alongside using good manners when we eat. Some of use even washed up our plates and cutlery all by ourselves. We are learning to, “Develop their small motor skills so that they can use a range of tools competently, safely and confidently,” Development Matters 2021. Suggested tools: pencils for drawing
and writing, paintbrushes, scissors, knives, forks and spoons.

The highlight of the week has to be World Book Day. We arrived in school in our super costumes and spent some time trying to guess the book characters we were dressed as. We enjoyed listening to stories and guessing who the masked readers were in school.

Phonics

This week we have been learning the sounds ‘ar’, (star) ‘ur’ (curl), ‘oo’ (food), and ‘or'(sort).

How you can help at home:

Why not have a go at coming up with some words of your own containing the digraphs of the week? Add a phoneme at the beginning and the end. Have you made a real or a pseudo word? Share them with us on Tapestry.
