This Week in Reception

SUMMER FUN

Mindfulness Mondays

Continuing with our theme of Summer Fun we have started to learn about the artist Edgar Degas. We have looked at some of his work and considered the similarities and differences of the beach and seaside views he painted.

The children are learning to, “explore, use and refine a variety of artistic effects to express their ideas and feelings,” (Development Matters 2021) We made a section of the sea using different shades of blue paper and will combine our smaller works of art to make a large scale sea back ground.

We have been learning to mix powder paints in preparation for the next stage of our creations.

We also discovered, quite by accident, what happens when we mix blue and red paint and had lots of fun painting and printing leaves we found on the floor with the purple shades we had made.

How you can help at home:

Let your child experiment with different coloured pastels, paints, shampoos, food colours and see if they can find out the magical ingredients of orange and green too.

In Understanding the World we have been thinking about Sun Safety as it is Sun Awareness Week.

We have learned about the power of the sun and the importance of staying safe when playing in the sun. We also learned some top safety tips:

Please remember to put sun cream on your child and send them in with a sun hat when the weather begins to warm up.
