This Week in Reception

Hello Elephants and Zebras,

What a busy week! On Monday we went to our first whole school Assembly and we did such good sitting and listening! Padre Nicoll told us about Remembrance Day and why it is important. During the week we made some beautiful poppies, do you like them?

We have started a new book during Literacy called “Whatever Next”. We are learning to “Listen to and talk about stories to build familiarity and understanding.” (Development Matters 2021)

We are having lots of fun learning and thinking about the story. We have been wondering what bear might have packed to go on his journey,  what he saw in space and  we have enjoyed playing with our space buggies on a very sticky planet! We also have a Space Den to explore –  in what was the Garden Centre – that is what all the boxes in tinfoil were for! On the day we had apples as our snack we even got to join baby bear and eat our snacks with his picnic. Inside, along with lots of other activities we have been playing with a little theatre and the shows seem to be very funny due to the giggles that come from this area!

Sound of the week

We are learning to ,”read individual letters by saying the sounds for them” and “develop the foundations of a handwriting style which is fast accurate and efficient” (Development Matters 2021).

This week we have learnt our ‘h’, ‘b’, ‘f’ and ‘l’ sounds:

How you can help at home:

Why don’t you go on a letter and sound hunt at home this weekend? You could search inside or outside. Get yourself a piece of paper and a pen or pencil. Have a look to see what you can find starting with the ‘h’, ‘b’, ‘f’ and ‘l’ sounds. You could draw a picture or try to write the name of what you have found. To start you off, maybe you could find a ball, a hairbrush, a lemon or a fish!

Have a wonderful weekend,

The Reception Team
