This week during maths the children have been exploring how numbers can be composed of 1s and, from this, begin to investigate the composition of 3 and 4. Composing and de-composing numbers involves the children investigating part-whole relations e.g seeing that number 3 can be made from 1 and 2.
Here are some examples of how the children made 4 using cubes.
How you can help at home:
Collect objects such as leaves, stones and sticks on a walk and use these objects to see how many different ways you can make the number 3 or 4.
