This Week in Reception

We have had another very busy week in Reception.

This week we have begun learning Handa’s Surprise. On Monday we searched the Reception Garden for story clues and found all the animals hiding out there. We have tried hard to remember which animal took which fruit from Handa’s basket.

You can find a copy of the story here:

We have been looking closely at the outsides and insides of fruit and vegetables and counting the seeds we have found. We have also used fruit and vegetables to make repeating patterns.

We are learning  to, “Recognise that people have different beliefs and celebrate special times in different ways,” (Development Matters 2021). We are so lucky to learn about and celebrate a variety of cultures in Reception.

On Tuesday Mr Kwakye came to talk to us about Easter.

On St Patrick’s Day we were very lucky to have a presentation from a pupil in Zebra Class. She talked about her family’s Irish roots and shared a clip of Hurling. She even had her own Hurling racket and ball to show us.

The Reception Children looked fabulous in their Green Accessories.

On Thursday afternoon Mrs Varia came to talk to us about the festival Holi.

She taught us to dance and wished us “Happy Holi” through the sharing of coloured powder.

How you can help at home:

If you have family that lives in a different part of the British Isles we would love to hear from you.

If you would be willing to come in and talk to the children about a celebration around the world we would welcome your visit.

The children are very proud to sit up at the front of the class and talk to us about their families and we love celebrating different cultures and traditions.
